Gabrielle Mayer
Who Is She?
Most people call her Gaby. She’s a self taught artist who has explored various mediums of artistic expression from photography to sculpting to wire art. The love of painting began in her late teens, first using oils and now working primarily with acrylics, creating paintings that resonate styles of expressionism and abstraction. Using a paint brush or knife or both to achieve a variety of effects from rough uneven textures to thick or thin sweeping areas of colour in passionate, vibrant and earthy tones. She primarily paints what’s around her which includes a wide array of subjects from landscapes to buildings to people. When the art bug bit her, one of the things she wanted to paint most was people, people are endlessly fascinating to her, all subjects present a unique challenge, in everyday life doing everyday things. Her aim is not to draw a perfect likeness of a person but to capture their thoughts in paintings and to provoke a delight in watching a story come to life on the canvas. For all her subjects she’s applied styles with harmonizing colours, saturated reds and yellows, earthy tones and healing greens of nature. She paints to emotionally connect people to feel what they see not just see what they look at.

My Philosophy
“The aim of art is to represent not the outward appearance of things,
but their inward significance”
